The Foundation Course

A Formal Study of yoga for teachers and non-teachers

Under my yoga school there are 2 parts to the yoga teacher training process. The first is The foundation Course, this is a 6 session course where you will learn the fundamentals of yoga. You must complete this course to under go your formal instruction as a yoga teacher. About half of the people who do this course have no interest in becoming a yoga teacher; they just want to deepen their knowledge and better understand their own practice and apply the system of yoga with greater skill.

The second part is the course proper. This is a comprehensive programme and a much longer commitment. In addition to the course there is much more contact between student-teachers and the course tutor. This is a 300+ hour course and takes approximately 2.5 to 3 years, although, you can be insured to start teaching yoga 6 months into this course. The final certification graduates you from trainee teacher to full teacher.

About The Traditional Yoga Association (TYA)

Formed by my teacher, Swami Ambikananda in 1992 the TYA has much older roots, the inspiration is Swami Sivananda, the Himalayan sage of the last century who almost single-handedly created the means for ancient teachings to be presented to modern minds, and one of his leading disciples, Swami Venkatesananda. Swami Sivananda would himself say of his disciple, Swami Venkatesananda, ‘… he is the crest jewel of my mission’ ~ a prophetic statement about Swami Venkatesananda who traversed the globe with Swami Sivananda’s message of, ‘serve, love, give…’

Both Swami Sivananda and Swami Venkatesh were considered enlightened by their contemporaries. The TYA is a yoga school and charity. Once you qualify you will be a TYA teacher – like me!

For teachers or those wishing to further their love of yoga

Do you love your yoga? You may be a yoga teacher, practiced over 20 years or completely new to yoga, the timeless teachings of yoga as presented by a living master of yoga are sure to shed new light on your practice.

If you truly want to understand Yoga, the transmission of knowledge is essential. There are many lineages of value—for example, the students of Krishnamacharya like Iyengar (Iyengar Yoga) or Pattabhi Jois (Ashtanga Yoga). Unfortunately, much of what they left behind has been manipulated by the British Wheel of Yoga to fit a modern agenda. Learn traditional Yoga as delivered by a monastic.

The course is £650
